baptism

Our salvation is by and through Christ alone as a gift from God. Baptism is a sacrament (outward visible sign of an inward invisible spiritual reality) that has been practiced by the Church since the beginning and symbolizes our identity with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. However baptism is much more than just a symbol, baptism is an expression of the covenant relationship we have initiated with Jesus.

The Greek word for baptism means to be immersed in water and baptism should be administered to every believer through the immersion in and coming out of a body of water. Jesus commanded that all Christians should be baptized (Matthew 28:19-20) to show an outward sign of the inward covenant relationship that we have with Him. Baptism shows, that by the power of the Holy Spirit, we have died to our old way of life, through the death of our old life as well as through the death of Jesus, and we now live a new life through the resurrection of Jesus. When we come out of the water we are cleansed from our sins.
